[ He steps out of the station a minute later, heading over near the cars to wait. When he spots Edgeworth (super hard to miss, let's be real), he raises a hand to wave him over.

And then starts walking away from the station, because you know. Subtlety or something. He occasionally has it. Nick keeps his pace slow, waiting for Edgeworth to fall into stride so he can keep his voice down. ]

I think something— someone was influencing him. That has to be something people here are capable of, right?

[Edgeworth nods. He doesn't show any sign of surprise or uncertainty; he just falls in easily next to him.]

It is. And I agree. I think it was outright mind control.

Did they teach that one in law school? [ Bad jokes. He's assuming not, unless Edgeworth happens to be from a place where mind control was a thing, which... well, who knows at this point. ]

They can't actually take him to trial for this, can they?

[glassinine]

[He glances over at Nick, his expression disgruntled at the law school comment. Still, he doesn't comment, and just answers Nick's other question straightforwardly.]

If it does not become clear that he was controlled, then the law would demand it.

[A pause.]

What's your interest in Mr. Mitchell?

[connate]

[ Well it's a good thing Nick's super good at coming up with lies on the spot, because— ]

[ Just kidding. The look he gives Edgeworth makes it obvious that he doesn't know how to answer that question. It also makes it obvious that he's not too bothered about it, considering the fact that he still seems calm. ] We're housemates.

[ Legit. ]

[He reaches up and adjusts his glasses. Neutrally:]

[connate]

[ Uhhhhhhhhhhhh. ]

[ 500% not even a little bit convincing. But instead of answering: ]

[ Nailed it. Nick flashes an amused smile, recovering with a more suitably sober expression a second later. ]

Encountered. Am I supposed to guess what that means?

[He scowls. But he's not looking at Nick; there's more there.]
